On May 11, the website of Guangdong Provincial Health Committee released the news of investigating and dealing with the neonatal infection in Shunde Hospital of Southern Medical University and the removal of the president of the hospital involved.

After the infection, Guangdong Province set up an incident investigation group and an expert working group. Through epidemiological investigation, clinical case analysis, nosocomial infection investigation and etiology detection, it has been found that this is a nosocomial infection event caused by enterovirus (ecovirus 11), 5 children with neonatal pneumonia and other basic diseases died, 13 cases of infection have been cured and discharged, 1 case is still in hospital for treatment, and the condition is stable.

ECHO virus is a kind of RNA virus, belonging to enterovirus B, enterovirus, micrornaviridae. Epstein-Barr virus type 11 infection is mainly related to respiratory tract infection. Its clinical manifestations are fever, lassitude, fatigue, rash, etc. Most of the patients are mainly mild, and can self-healing; a few patients may develop into severe due to their own other diseases or low immune function.
The Epstein Barr virus is mainly transmitted through fecal oral route and also through droplets. It is highly infectious and can infect almost all cells in the body.
This incident is a wake-up call. Air cleanliness is very important for newborns, especially in NICU. Their resistance is poor, even ordinary bacteria and viruses can be life-threatening if they are infected.

EKEAIR mobile air sterilization station can achieve 100% filtration of particles as small as 0.3um. The ECHO virus needs to be attached to the particles for transmission. Yuke can effectively filter and inactivate the virus to protect the health of newborns and medical staff.
